Shania Jayn Anino, Nathanael Larida, and Matt Alexius Merano won the UI/UX competition at UC ICT Congress 2025, up against teams from every University of Cebu campus.
In October 2025, my team (Shania Jayn Anino, Nathanael Larida, and me) won the UI/UX competition at UC ICT Congress 2025. Teams came from every University of Cebu campus. We designed a complete product experience within the competition's time limit and took first place.
About UC ICT Congress 2025
UC ICT Congress is a technology congress for students from all University of Cebu campuses, with events in software, design, and innovation. In the UI/UX track, teams design a working, user-centered product from scratch on a deadline. Then they present it to a panel of evaluators who judge both how it looks and how well the team explains each decision.
How we approached the competition
In the time we had, we took the design from research and user personas through wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes. We split the work so every phase was covered and the design still held together as one product. The hardest part was deciding quickly while still being able to defend each choice, since a perfect decision is useless if you run out of time.
What competing in design taught me
Designing for a competition is its own skill. Your audience is a panel of judges who have already seen dozens of entries, so the reasoning counts as much as the visuals. Being able to defend every design choice calmly under questioning is often what separates the placements, and this competition made me better at both.
