Matt Alexius Merano and Team SiXeven, from the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue, reached the semifinals of LAMBO 2026 as a wildcard, one of 10 teams left out of 30. LAMBO is the AI business case competition of Cebu's AI Business Summit.

On June 27, 2026, my team SiXeven (Benedict Gio Illustrisimo, Nathanael Larida, Raj Efpi Tag-at, and me) represented the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue at LAMBO 2026, the AI business case competition at Cebu's AI Business Summit. Thirty teams from Cebu's top schools competed. We got into the semifinals through the wildcard, as one of the last 10. I was the team's UI/UX designer and developer.

About LAMBO 2026

LAMBO 2026 was the case competition at Cebu's AI Business Summit. Thirty teams from Cebu's top schools worked through real business cases, round after round, and for each one designed and pitched an AI solution to the problem in front of them. Ten teams made it to the semifinals.

Designing AI solutions for Filipino businesses

Every case had to work for an actual Filipino business: the local market, how the business operates, what data it really has, and what an SME can afford. So we held every recommendation to one test: could this business actually adopt it? As UI/UX designer and developer, I turned each solution into something a business owner could picture using. That meant clear flows, believable screens, and a pitch that walked through how the idea would work on an ordinary day.

What reaching the Top 10 taught me

A case competition moves faster than a hackathon or a thesis. You don't get time to polish a design. You have to understand the business, find the constraint that matters, and give a believable answer under pressure, then do it again for the next case. Getting into the Top 10 as a wildcard showed me that good AI product work comes down to judgment more than technology: knowing what a business can realistically take on, and designing for that.
